Paros - Let the “jewel of the Aegean” enchant you!

Situated in the heart of the Cyclades in the middle of the Aegean Sea, Paros is an alluring island steeped in history and natural beauty with many attractions and a vibrant nightlife. Named after the leader of the Arcadians, Parios, who inhabited the island in 1100 BC, Paros is celebrated for the whiteness of its fine marble that was used for the building of the Acropolis’ Parthenon and has embraced all forms of art since ancient times.

Begin your journey in the picturesque capital of the island, Parikia. Stroll around the narrow paved streets and whitewashed cubic houses with the blue-painted doors and window frames, reflecting on the deep-blue Aegean waters. Enjoy an ice-cold “souma”, a local specialty created by the distillation of grape pomace, uniquely accompanied by a local fish “meze” named “gouna” under the shadow of luxuriant vines, surrounded by gardens of oranges and pomegranates. Explore a majestic place of worship, the almost 1.600 years old Church of Ekatontapilliani, the church of the hundred gates. It is considered to be the masterpiece of the island and one of Christianity’s most treasured monuments in Greece. A few more steps and you’ll behold the remnants of a captivating medieval castle, built in the 13th century almost entirely of the marble fragments of an ancient temple.

Dozens of writers, painters, sculptors, musicians and poets consider Paros to be the cultural hub of the Cyclades. It is the authentic flair that dominates the scene. Everything is open and welcoming, like the people of the island.

Visit the scenic fishing village of Naoussa retaining its authentic charm with its numerous picturesque tavernas and the unique 15th century Venetian castle situated directly in front of the port, half-sunken beneath the sea surface. Leave the coast behind you, pass by ruins of old wind mills, admire a gorgeous countryside and come to Lefkes, a peaceful mountain village nestled in the hills, in the middle of the island. Explore it and become pleasantly lost amid the small bougainvillea spangled streets which were designed to confuse invading pirates during the Venetian times.

The stunning scenery, the quaint fishing villages, the historical sites and the religious marvels are only a few of the islands attractions. Wonderful beaches beckon you with their white sand and crystal clear waters and are as breathtaking as the blue-domed churches against the spectacular Aegean landscape. Ideal wind conditions make Paros a popular center of attraction for wind and kite surfers from all around the world and visitors enjoying all kinds of water sports.

And if you want to withdraw yourself in nature, a lush paradise with running waters and dense vegetation form a magical biotope that hosts thousands of colorful butterflies during the summer months. The Butterfly Valley, set in the most beautiful landscape in Paros, is a magnificent sight for nature lovers.

Is it the picturesque cycladic architecture with its white-washed houses? Is it the 120 km of exciting coastline with magnificent beaches? Is it the masterpieces of past centuries and the countless treasures of cultural heritage? Is it the charming cosmopolitan lifestyle and an intense nightlife?

Whatever the reason is, Paros will definitely put a spell on you.
